The project has been fully costed and information about the costs are listed below.​

The project will produce and deliver 1,000 high-quality colour guidebooks of 64 pages, at the cost of UK£13,000 (approx. US$16,125), with the option for a limited-edition run of 50 guidebooks for gifting purposes if sufficient money is raised. The costs are from November 2024 so inflation dependent.

The guidebook will contain material written specifically for the guidebook, 25 bespoke botanical illustrations, 10-15 newly commissioned photographs of plants and trees in the garden today, and a range of historic images; namely botanical illustrations by John Tyley, a mixed-race artist employed at the Garden in the late 1700s, and scans of dried and pressed plant specimens of plants grown in the Garden during the late 1700s and early 1800s - our thanks go to the Linnean Society of London, and the Natural History Museum, London respectively for their waving of copyright fees).

We have already secured shipping for the guidebooks, and our thanks goes to Kestrel for their generosity.​

Production of the Guidebooks

Below are the costs for the production of the 1,000 guidebooks totally £13,000 (approx. US$16,125); costs as at November 2024

As at May 2025, £5,000 has been raised towards the project - a huge thank you

Writing the text; Nil

​

The text for the guidebook will be written by Dr Christina Welch who led the collaborative project that unearthed the hidden history of the garden. The text will include information on the history of the garden, its plants and people from inception in 1765. Additional material on John Tyley, the mixed-race botanical artist employed in the late 1800s, will be written by Dr Julie Kim, while Dr J.Nese Williams will provide a section that places the St. Vincent Botanical Garden into its global context. The Director of the St, Vincent Botanical Garden will add a section on the garden today

Botanical illustrations; UK£3,750 (approx. US$4,650)

25 bespoke botanical drawings will be produced by Lisa Temple-Cox, a mixed-race botanical, anatomical and cartographic artist who worked with Dr Welch and the Botanical Garden in St. Vincent to provide a piece of unique artwork for the St. Vincent Botanical Garden Unearthing project

Botanical photographs; UK£900 (Approx. US$1,115)

​

A local photographer will be engaged to photograph a range of plants and trees; they will work with the garden to ensure the photographs complement the botanical illustrations

Design work; UK£4,250 (approx.US$5,275)

Daniella-Mae Briscoe-Peaple, a heritage professional and the designer of the St. Vincent Botanical Garden pop-up exhibition will design the guidebook. Daniella is of Anglo-Jamaican descent and has worked with Museum Detox's Interpretation group

Printing; UK£3,750 (approx. US$4,650)

One-Digital will produce 1,000 high-quality bound color Guidebooks of 64 pages including covers in 115gsm silk PUR bind which will ensure a high quality product

Shipping; Nil

​

 Our thanks goes to Kestrel for their generosity in providing the shipping costs for the guidebooks

Brokerage; UK£350 (approx. US$435)

​

Brokerage fees are the taxes that need to be paid to import the guidebooks

​

Special limited edition version;

 

If enough additional money is raised then 50 limited-edition guidebooks will be produced for gifting purposes. â€‹

The costs are:- additional contemporary botanical illustrations at UK£750, additional design work at UK£1,000, specialist printing costs (A5 size 170gsm silk with cover with Swallowtail Print) of £750, and UK£100 for brokerage
